ABC Jesus Loves Me: Year One Week Two

Zoey is 15 months old. This was her second week of ABCJesusLovesMe, Year One Week Two. Below is the weekly "lesson plan" that I wrote out to use. Feel free to save and print it yourself. Just a note - I don’t always get to each activity, and that’s okay! I just use this as a guide.

Our Bible story this week is Baby Moses, so we read the story in a picture Bible. I asked Zoey to point out the baby in the basket and she kept saying, "baby."

Her book this week is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," and I decided to break out the counting bears with her for the first time. At first, she just played with them and put them in and out of the cups.

Then I put the cups in front of her with one bear in each color and showed her how to sort by color. She doesn't quite understand the concept, but when I handed her a bear and pointed to the correct cup, she did put the bear in! I have a feeling we'll be using these more often.

We also played with one of her baby dolls and a basket. We pretended to put the baby in a basket like Moses's mother did. Then she was pushing her dolls around in her stroller. She even climbed into her doll stroller!

We didn’t get to Tot School on Tuesday because I got sick. So we made up for it on Wednesday! First I let Zoey water paint a brown rectangle. She likes to do this, but she spilled the water on purpose three times, so we quit the activity. That’s how I teach my toddlers - if they can’t do the activity without making a mess, we put it away.

Then I let her put glue on her bear worksheet (her animal this week is bear). I tore some brown paper (I tried to get her to help me, but she wasn’t interested) and then she glued it to the bear.

She wasn’t ready to relinquish the glue stick yet, so I gave her a few paint sticks and she painted her Baby Moses worksheet. I cut it out and helped her glue the basket and then the baby on a sheet of card-stock.

She also colored her train brown for her color train.

Since our book was "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," I wanted to do a fun activity to introduce color matching. I found a free printable with the animals from the book and cut them apart. I drew nine rectangles in different colors on a sheet of cardstock. Zoey and I looked at each animal and I named the color for her. Then I helped her match the animal to the rectangle and glue them on.

I filled her Color Box with lots of brown items! Brown magnatiles, lots of brown Little People animals (camel, horse, monkey, yak, goat, walrus), plastic trees, some of our Branch blocks, a plastic fence, a small bear, and a small horse. She played with this several times!

We didn't do the water sensory bin this week, but she does play with plenty of toys in the tub so I'm checking that off the list! I try to sing our song of the week throughout the day, and we do the sign language and poem too. I’m really enjoying this relaxed tot school with Zoey!
