7th grade week in review: August 3 - August 7, 2015

I don't want to leave my oldest, Mikaela, out when I do my week in reviews for Heart of Dakota. So, here is her week in review!

MATH: KEY TO FRACTIONS

She completed her first book in the 4 book series in Key To Fractions. It only took her two weeks! She really likes the way these workbooks are set up. They assume you know nothing about the topic {which is great, for her}, and starts from the very basics. If your child needs the mastery approach to math, this series would be very helpful.

BIBLE: CHRISTIAN LIGHT EDUCATION

Mikaela memorized John 1:14 this week, and wrote it in her index card ring. She is reading through all four gospels chronologically. She enjoys it, and is learning quite a bit.

LANGUAGE ARTS: CHRISTIAN LIGHT EDUCATION

We are using Christian Light's language arts. I'm not sure if we like it yet or not! It takes a really long time each day. Of course, it covers grammar, penmanship and spelling, so it's a complete LA program. She learned how to diagram direct and indirect objects this week.

WRITING: SPECTRUM WRITING 7

We just got her writing book in the mail on Friday, so she hasn't even completed the first lesson. I think she's going to like it, though, and she will only have it on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.

SCIENCE: SCIENCE IN THE ANCIENT WORLD

I have already talked about how much we love this science book! She did 3 experiments this week. Two were on sound waves and pitch. The one she did Friday was on atoms, and she had to draw a picture using dots. It was fun for her! She does science on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

HISTORY: HOD history with BIGGER HEARTS

She is following along with us for history, using Bigger Hearts with Eli and Mercie. I am adding in research and activities for her to do, and she does the vocabulary and geography assignments with us. She also does the notebook activity each week. She read Pedro's Journal this week.

{Titus is showing her his nature bracelet, and you can see Pedro's Journal in her hand!}

ART: THE ART OF BASIC DRAWING

She loves to draw, and is quite good. She requested a drawing book, so we found this one on christianbook.com, and she likes it a lot!

Mikaela has been very motivated with her homeschooling, and I am proud of her. I haven't had to stay on top of her at all to complete her work. She is usually done in 3 hours each day.

  1. I love how you chose Spectrum Writing and will use it twice a week. I think that's great. And not overwhelming with her using it only twice a week.
    Keep up the good work!
