I'm Back!

I can't believe it's been 2 and 1/2 years since I've blogged here! So much has happened in the past few years. We bought another house about five miles from where we used to live. We now live right in the middle of our land and cattle.

We had another baby! Zeke is 13 months old. He is such a sweetheart, but very curious and into everything all day long!

Mikaela is 17 and a junior in high school. She plays softball, works at the concession stand for the basketball games to make a little gas money, and made honor roll this 9-weeks. She is the vice-president for FBLA and 4-H.

Eli is 14 and a freshman in high school. He is the starting point guard for the basketball team, plays baseball and is going to be running track this year. He also makes honor roll in school and participates in Ag.

I'm still homeschooling Mercie, Silas, Titus and Zeke. Mercie is 11 (almost 12) in 6th grade, Silas is 9 in 4th grade, and Titus is 7 in 2nd grade. Man, I really need to update my pictures

We are involved in the homeschool 4H group and our own homeschool group, the NELA Homeschool Rally. Each month, the kids give presentation on different topics and we have a STEM activity for them. So far, we only have one other family participating, but it's been great for the kids to practice speaking in front of a group.

We are using Expedition Earth this year for geography. We have been to the continents of Asia and Europe so far and studied 13 countries. We will be studying North America for the next four weeks.

We are also using God's Design for Life, The World of Animals for science. We have studied mammals and birds, and will be studying fish this week.

For math, we use Math Lessons for a Living Education. For language arts, Mercie is using Learning Language Arts Through Literature. Silas is using Language Lessons for a Living Education, but next year, all three will use Learning Language Arts Through Literature. Titus is using a "Getting Ready for 2nd Grade!" workbook for all of his subjects right now. I'm not usually a big fan of these workbooks, but this one is really well-done.

Zeke is using ABC Jesus Loves Me, the one year curriculum. We just started last week. It's really about ten to twenty minutes spread throughout the day to teach him colors, shapes, Bible stories and songs, poems, sign language, motor skills, and animals. Sounds like a lot, but it's not!

We use Bible Road Trip for our Bible lessons, and the kids each read a Psalm a day and copy or highlight a verse from that Psalm.

I look forward to blogging again and sharing our week-in-review!

What's new with you?

  1. My middle son is going to a local high school next week to take a placement test to see if he'll be a good fit there next year and my oldest, while still homeschooling, is a sophomore in high school and preparing to get his driver's license. The biggest change with me is my blog... and I've lost 40 lbs this year using Weight Watchers with my husband. Congrats on the "new" baby! And all the growth, progress, and changes.

  2. I saw your new blog and love it! My daughter got her driver's license last year and it has been a game-changer to have an extra driver in the family. Congratulations on the weight loss! That's something I need to focus on.
