I cannot believe today is the first day of April. My birthday is in two weeks and I'll be turning 37! We had a normal week this week - busy as usual, but the weather has been beautiful. It finally feels like spring around here. It will be soon feel like summer, so I'm trying to enjoy the warm days before it turns scorching hot.
Sunday evening, Silas and Titus competed in the Church Bible Drill. They both passed with zero mistakes! I was so proud of them. All six of the participants passed and will be moving on to the District Bible Drill on April 10th. If they pass that drill, they will move on to the State Bible Drill on April 30! They have worked so hard all year and memorized 25 verses, 10 key passages, the books of the Bible, and the Plan of Salvation.
Zeke had speech again Tuesday. Titus had TKD on Tuesday and Thursday. Mercie had a tennis match scheduled for Wednesday, but we had a bad storm with tornado warnings most of the afternoon so it was canceled along with church. The boys had haircuts Wednesday morning before the storm arrived and they look so handsome. We also had two of Mercie's horses Coggins tested on Wednesday morning (they were both negative) so she can start rodeoing with them.
Silas and Titus are learning some Spanish words with a program we are reviewing called Whitzlefritz. I made some color word flashcards and they matched counting bears to the words. This was an activity we did when they were in preschool learning their color words! I modified it for the Spanish words and they actually enjoyed it.
We learned about several explorers to the New World this week including Columbus, Cortes, de Soto, and de Leon. They added to their timelines, written narrations, and made a notebooking page about Columbus.
They are all cruising along in their math and grammar programs, eager to finish for the year. I don't blame them - I'm feeling the same way!
Tomorrow we are going to the zoo with my sister and her kids for two of boy's birthdays. We will pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the spring-like weather! Sunday we have a soup and salad lunch after church to kick off our Annie Armstrong offering. I'm making ham and potato soup. That's what my weekend will consist of! Enjoy yours!
What a great idea for a simple and fun Spanish lesson! It sounds like a wonderful week of schooling.
