Homeschool Highlights: 5/4/20 - 5/8/20

We officially wrapped up our 2019-2020 school year this week! We had two weeks left in our Expedition Earth curriculum - Antarctica and the Arctic. We decided to combine the two weeks into one week since they were so similar. I had several books on Arctic animals and the polar lands/tundra from our biome study last year. We read some of those and colored a penguin coloring sheet.
Antarctica doesn't have a flag, so the kids got to design their own flag for Antarctica. They really enjoyed this.
We learned about several neat animals, including the narwhal. Did you know the narwhal's "horn" is really a long tooth? Only the males have this long tooth. Long ago, Vikings would cut their "horns" off and sell them to villagers, claiming the "horn" would detect poison in food if they touched the "horn" to their food.

All of the kids finished their language arts and math curriculum. They have been working in their Summer Learning Binders (a post on this coming soon).

Last lesson in Language Lessons for a Living Education!

Mercie is still doing Latin and Artistic Pursuits. Titus is still working on Reading Kingdom and Ed Shed. It will be nice to have a month or two off from "formal" schoolwork. I'm in full planning mode now though! Mercie will be in 7th grade, Silas will be in 4th/5th, and Titus will be in 3rd. Zeke will start his new curriculum, "Bible ABC's for Ones, Twos, and Threes" that I wrote for the School House Teacher's website.

We worked in the garden every day this week. It's looking really nice! I'm doing it 100% organic, so the kids and I get out there everyday and weed a couple of rows. It's a huge garden!

I bought a slip-and-slide the other day and they have had a blast with it! Even Zeke loved it!

I've been sprucing my porch up with some new plants and pillows for my rocking chair and swing. Rod built me this huge front porch and nice sized back porch a year and a half ago. I'm just now getting around to decorating it!

The kid have all been begging me to cook. I think they've each had a turn this week cooking supper! They're all really good cooks, and it's nice to have a break from the kitchen.
