A+ Interactive Math Mini-Courses {TOS Review}

I think every homeschool mom is worried about gaps in their child's math education. I know I worry about it! That's why I was excited to review A+ Interactive Math's Mini-Courses with my 5th grade son, Eli.

What is A+ Interactive Math?

A+ Interactive Math is an online math program that helps students improve their grades. This program uses voice, visual, and text-based instructions to make learning math easy.

A+ Interactive Math is now offering Mini-Courses. These Mini-Courses are designed to help "close the gaps" in your child's math education. Each Mini-Course focuses on one area of math for your child. Here are the Mini-Courses available right now:
  • Counting and Identifying Numbers
  • Place Value and Number Combinations
  • Naming, Comparing, and Arranging Numbers
  • Early Elementary Fractions
  • Early Elementary Addition
  • Early Elementary Subtraction
  • Elementary and Middle School Multiplication
  • Elementary and Middle School Division
  • Tables, Charts, and Graphs
  • Elementary Geometry
  • Elementary Algebra
  • Advanced Geometry
  • Advanced Fractions
  • Decimal Numbers
  • Percentages
  • Time
  • Money
  • Number Types and Conversions
  • Ratio, Proportions, Probability, and Statistics
  • Measurements and Conversions
As you can see, there is a huge variety of mini-courses available for your child! Each course has between 10 and 35 lessons. Each math mini-course is accessible for one year, but most courses can be completed in 2-3 months. If your child needs to go back and review, the one year access will be very appreciated.

The mini-courses include the following:
  • multi media lessons
  • interactive review
  • worksheets
  • automatic grading and tracking
  • progress reports
  • solution guides
  • full text versions of the lessons
  • printable worksheets and tests
How are we using the Mini-Courses?

Math Mini-Courses {A+ Interactive Math Review}

We received access to the Advanced Fractions and Decimal Numbers mini-courses. Eli, my 5th grader, is working through the Fractions lessons. He uses it a few times a week as a supplement to his regular math curriculum. We haven't started on Decimals yet.

The mini-courses each have a different number of lessons. Advanced Fractions has 26 lessons, while Decimal Numbers has 20 lessons. I am going to walk you through the Mixed Fractions lessons, to show you how it works.

When your child logs on to the A+ Interactive Math website, he will choose which mini-course he wants to launch. We are launching "Advanced Fractions".

Next, a screen pulls up with these options:

Video Lessons with Interactive Review; View/Generate Online Worksheets and Tests; View Lessons in PDF; View Printable Worksheets and Tests; View Reports; and How to Get Started.

When you click "Video Lessons", you are taken to the {of course} video lessons. Your child will watch a short video introducing and teaching the concepts.

Next, he will have an Interactive Review. He will have to answer questions, and right away, he will know if the answer was correct or incorrect. He cannot move on until the answer is correct.

If your child doesn't want to watch the video or just needs some extra practice, he can click on "View/Generate Online Worksheets and Tests". On these worksheets, you child will choose the correct answer, and then click "next" at the top of the page. When he is finished with the worksheet, he will click "finalize worksheet". He cannot change his answers once he clicks this. He will be taken to a screen that shows how he did. On this quiz, Eli missed 1, so he made 90%.

You can view reports, too. There are Worksheet and Test Summary Reports, Interactive Q/A Summary Reports, and Lesson Completion Summary. This is nice to have at-a-glance. You can see where your child is, how he is doing, how much he is doing, and what he needs extra help with.

I really like how thorough the videos are! They start at the very beginning, assuming you know nothing. This is nice, because it makes your child start from the bottom and go up. The lessons build upon each other, and they get harder pretty quickly. The videos are pretty short, but Eli thought they went too slowly. They are no-nonsense videos - no cute characters or anything - which is great for kids who get distracted by things like that. The videos are easy to follow and understand. The interactive review questions are also nicely done, and Eli liked knowing right away that he got an answer correct {or incorrect}. They don't take long to complete, and are perfect for any child that needs a little extra help or review with certain math concepts. The price is great, especially considering you get an entire year of access!
