Verse of the Week

"The kingdom of heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough." Matthew 13:33 {NLT}

From Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary:
"The scope of the parable of the seed sown, is to show that the beginnings of the gospel would be small, but its latter end would greatly increase...it works silently and without being seen, yet strongly; without noise, for so is the way of the Spirit, but without fail."

When I read this verse and the commentary, I immediately felt a sense of joy. The seed that I am sowing every day, in my children, may seem small to me and to others, but what joy to know that its "latter end will greatly increase"! What a ministry we have to our children!

The small things - reading Bible stories, singing "This Little Light of Mine", saying our prayers at night, talking about Jesus in everyday situations - are really the big things. The seeds we are sowing in our children will permeate their heart, their mind, their life. They will grow to maturity and will bear the fruit God so desires.

I am so thankful that I am with my children every day, all day, and that I have these opportunities to plant these seeds. I pray that God will water these seeds and cause them to grow!
